Seasons Greetings!

We are so excited to be making progress on The Grasshopper Academy core curriculum program. It’s a comprehensive and dynamic curriculum inspired + informed by the natural world and its systems, for use in a variety of applications and optimized for ages 8-12.

The core program materials will consist of 12 units with 4-6 lessons each. Topics will include earth and life sciences, environmental leadership, critical thinking, and more!

You can expect to see a BRAND NEW Grasshopper Academy website in the spring of 2023 – so the Academy will have its very own site complete with information about the curriculum, access to resources, and lots of fun stuff. For now, you can learn a little more about the program in its current form on the Grasshopper Academy webpage.

If you’re interested in providing feedback for the curriculum, you can choose which materials you are most interested in reviewing and we’ll send them along as they are ready (of course you can stop receiving materials at any time!). To sign up for the Feedback Crew, complete this registration form before January 31, 2023.

If you’ve been tuning in for awhile, you may have noticed that there have been some recent changes made to the Hop sHOPpe. We temporarily removed (Im)Perfect Iterations clothing from the sHOPpe, but when it returns you can expect new designs from Artskeem :). We plan to find a small print shop to print the designs on sustainably-sourced apparel in addition to printing STICKERS!

We also removed True Earth Company products from the site for now as we redirect our energy and make a few changes, but you can still purchase them directly from their website –  and we hope you do! Our favorites are the Holy Basil and Turmeric Trio tinctures (medicine from the Earth!) and the formula #111 fertilizer (medicine for the Earth!).

AND – we’re HITTING THE ROAD! We will be collecting footage for NEW stops on the ‘Hopper Portal including new videos! We will continue to produce and launch new videos on a regular basis once we get settled (in the meantime please subscribe to the channel!).

Lastly, we’re SO excited for the launch of The Grasshopper Academy Core Curriculum in the summer of 2023.

The vision behind the portal is to showcase fun, free, family-friendly places to visit to learn about the diverse habitats on planet Earth! Each stop offers opportunities to learn about the natural world – critters, plants, ecosystems and habitats. We will continue to add new stops and information to the ‘Hopper Portal map in addition to releasing videos of Chi-Dog and Sunny’s tours of each location! PAN’s mission is to increase the resilience of the Northeast region by strengthening the regional permaculture network and increasing access to relevant education and resources. You can read more about their PAN and their organizational values here. This event is the first in their Uprooting and Unearthing Virtual Engagement Series.

The theme of Uprooting and Unearthing includes: decolonization and equity; the role of spirituality and Indigenous traditions in permaculture; the inner processes of learning, reflection, and discovery; and taking responsibility through action. As we begin to uproot the systems of thought and practice that run counter to Earth care, people care, and fair share, we remember that growing food, building soil, protecting water, regenerating healthy ecosystems, and fostering community is sacred work.“

As we started to promote this event, an important point was illuminated by our network and community: While rooted in good intentions, the word “Decolonizing” may not have been the best choice of words for titling this important event and discussion. Rather than change the name of the event, we decided to lead with this idea when we meet on Dec. 7th. We wanted to post an update on the status of (Im)Perfect Iterations. We’ve launched the design for May 2021 in the shop and have an exciting concept for June comin’ “down the pike”. After the 6th (and final for this series) design is launched in June we’ll be taking a break in order to reconfigure the online shop and printing process. . we want to support local printers!
We’re also looking to collaborate with more artists and garment creators, so drop us a line if you feel inspired! This isn’t the end of the brand – only the beginning! Thanks to all for your support thus far, and stay tuned for the (Im)Perfect Iterations 2.0 in the near future!
